Events of the day shall include the following:
Johann Ernst Eberlin (1702-1762) was an Austrian musician, born in the little Bavarian town of Jettingten and schooled in Augsburg, before enrolling in the Salzburg Benedictine University at age 19. He was a versatile and prolific composer who early in his career published many of his works for keyboard. A friend of both Leopold Mozart and his son Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Eberlin was a very prolific composer and wrote more than 300 works for both keyboard and for the church. From 1746 he worked for the Archbishop of Salzburg as both the head of music for the court at Salzburg and also for the Cathedral. The young Mozart expressed admiration for the abilities of Eberlin and his vocal writing, and even participated in performances of the latter's works. Eberlin died in Salzburg in 1762. |
