SOLD OUT! Sorry, folks, if you mistook that caption
for a Tiger ball game. We're talking about the Cookout and Ice Cream
Social held here on August
8th. Parishioners, friends and patrons donated the funds to pay for all
the food and beverages. Father Mark donated and cooked the sauerkraut
and German potato salad and also all of the strudel. The baked beans
were cooked and donated by a parishioner. Because of this, every-thing
we sold was clear profit. Anyone who attended the festivities knows
we ran out of everything. It was a great learning experience so that
we can be better prepared for next year. We unknowingly sold our beer
under the distributor's cost and we needed a lot more bratwurst. We realized
a profit of $2,336.00. More importantly, we realized that our cluster
has made us a part of a loving family of three parishes. Saint Josaphat
sent over 14 round tables with chairs for us to set up in the rectory
yard. What would we have done without them? Sweetest Heart of Mary sent
over two cano-pies. Without them some of our food would have ended up
in the hot sun, creating an impossible situation. We are thankful for
our many volunteers who made this day such a resounding success. God
bless each and every one of you along with our customers, who lined up
from the front of the Social Hall all the way back to Orleans Street
waiting to get their food. Their patience was the best gift of all! Thank
you Father Mark, for shepherding our wonderful cluster! Click
here for photos!

Baptized Into Christ
On August 1, 2004, Fr. John Kiselica baptized Gretchen
Elizabeth Waltenspiel. We welcome this new member into the Christian
Community.
Choir Season Starting
The choir season is once more upon us. The Saint Joseph Cappella (mixed
voice choir) will resume rehearsals on Thursday, August 19, at 7:30 p.m.
Singers are always needed, and Cappella members greatly enjoy the friendship
and worship. If you would like to be part of this apostolate, show up
for practice. Entrance to the church for choir practice is through the
rear door at the sacristy. Park in the rectory yard and proceed to the
church through the gate between the sexton's house and the garage. The
cappella sings nearly every other Sunday at the 10:30 Latin Mass. September
19, is the first scheduled Mass for this season.

Thank You!
The Parish Family of Saint Joseph Church wishes
to thank Margaret Manetta for her donation of $1,000 toward the upcoming
roof
repairs on
the church.
Mrs. Manetta, who was recently widowed, is a cousin of one of our parishioners.
At a family gathering in mid July, she learned of the many repairs that
are needed here at Saint Joseph and generously made this donation. May
God richly reward her for her gift.
Thanks are also in order to Jack Dunne for showing up
every day and working in the heat on the parish grounds. Volunteers have
been coming
on Wednesday and Saturday to do yard work at the parish. There is always
plenty to do.
Bell Is Back in Order
Anthony is back on track thanks to two engineers. Gerard Gray,
a retired automotive engineer, and Rod
Bloedow, a working
locomotive
engineer,
recently
did extensive work on the largest of our six bells, the one named for
Saint Anthony, the Patron Saint of Mr. Anthony Pulte who donated this
bell to the church in 1873. The Saint Anthony bell was dropped from the
top of the belfry in 1873 while it was being installed. It fell 13 stories
through several upper floors in the bell tower and finally crashed through
the ceiling and floor of the vestibule ending up hopelessly broken in
the basement. It was recast and reinstalled. The bell weighs 5,000 pounds.
The frame holding it in place recently started to precariously lean
sideways and it was feared that the bell might repeat its plummet of
1873. Engineers Gray and Bloedow single handedly devised a way to move
the bell back into its original position and stabilize the framing around
it. With God's help it should stay put for another 131 years.
Learn the Ropes
See Matthew McGuire after a bell-ringing on Sunday and
learn how to assist at ringing the bells. Entrance to the rope room is
behind the organ.
