Please turn in your Parish Census Form!
If you have lost your census form, there are more on the radiators in the church vestibule, or you can download one here. We need to know how many parishioners we have in order for Father Borkowski to plan Mass schedules and to manage the daily affairs of the parish. Mail your form to the office address at the top of the first page, or drop it in the collection basket at mass. If you are not currently a parishioner and would like to register, simply fill out the form and write "NEW PARISHIONER" at the top of the first page.

Today is Mission Sunday!
Recent world events remind us of the struggles our missionaries face each day. The terrible explosion of AIDS and tuberculosis in sub-Saharan Africa, the destruction of Christian churches, schools and clinics by Islamic terrorists throughout the world, the terrible floods in Bangladesh, the hunger of children in the Sudan and the hardship of the street children in Brazil are all facing our missionaries who try to bring the Word of God, the Church's saving Sacraments as well as food and medicine to all God's people. We all want to reach out and help them and World Mission Sunday provides us with this opportunity. Pray! Support!

Did you see?
Have you noticed how beautifully our front doors have been restored? Special thanks to our custodian, Thomas Crachiolo, for all the hard work!

Please help with the display case
You may have noticed a display case in the back of the Social Hall. It will be used to display memorabilia. The cost was $400.00. The money came from parish funds but donations would be appreciated to cover the cost.

Confirmation
Bishop John Quinn will confirm any adult in our three-parish cluster who has not received this sacrament, on November 21 at Sweetest Heart of Mary Church. Any adult wishing to, be confirmed should make an appointment with Father Borkowski soon. If you were not baptized at one of the three churches in our cluster, you will need a baptismal certificate from the church at which you were baptized.
"When the Apostles who were in Jerusalem heard that Somalia had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John. Who, when they were come, prayed for them; that they might receive the Holy Spirit. For He was not yet come upon any of them; but they were only baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then they laid their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit." Acts 8:14-17

Baptized into Christ
On September 26, 2004, Father John Kiselica baptized Jacob Sanford Zoller. We welcome this new member into the Christian Community.

Death Notice
Michael Krolikowski, the homeless young man with the pony tail who came to Mass and Communion here for so many months, has died. Mike didn't have any identification so we assume that when the city picked up his remains he was listed as a John Doe. The morgue had no record under his name.

An Invitation to All
The Saint Joseph Harvest Dinner celebrates the founding of the parish in November of 1855 and the dedication of the stone church which replaced the original wooden church, in November of 1873. Last year we had to turn parishioners away because we simply ran out of room in our Social Hall. The dinner this year will be at Alcamo's Hall at 21801 E. 9 Mile Rd. in St. Clair Shores, so that everyone in our cluster may be accommodated. For ticket information and maps, click here.

Food for the Poor
The Food Pantry at Sweetest Heart of Mary helps a very large number of poor families with groceries. The pantry continually runs out of food even though the parishioners at Sweetest Heart try to keep the shelves very well stocked. Father Borkowski has asked that all the parishes in our cluster be involved in this corporal work of mercy. The basket in the vestibule is for this ongoing work. Please be generous.

Welcome
The parish family of St. Joseph Church gratefully welcomes Father Paul Ward to celebrate
the 10:30 Latin Mass October 3rd and 10th.

Thanks
Everyone who came for donuts and coffee on September 19th was able to partake from a large and beautiful fruit tray of pineapple, strawberries, grapes and many kinds of melon. This was a gift from Delener McCamey. Delener is a lady with a million dollar smile, and her smile just seems to be contagious wherever she goes. Thanks Delener, from your parish family!

Memorial Mass
Michael Pye, a longtime faithful parishioner of St. Joseph Church, passed away in a drowning accident on August 12, 2004. Relatives, friends and parishioners gathered on September 5 after the noon Mass to pray the Rosary for the re-pose of Michael's soul. Father Borkowski, has scheduled a memorial Mass for Michael this coming Saturday, October 9, at 11:00 am at St. Joseph Church. Parishioners from our cluster family are invited to attend this Mass to pray for all the souls of the faithful departed and to offer support and sympathy to the bereaved family. Michael is survived by his wife, Loretta, 3 children and 2 grandchildren. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace.
Unto Almighty God, we commend the soul of our brother departed in sure and certain hope of the Resurrection unto eternal life, through Our Lord Jesus Christ, at whose coming in glorious majesty to judge the world, the corruptible bodies of those who sleep in Him shall be changed, and made like unto His glorious body, according to the mighty working whereby He is able to subdue all things unto Himself.

Newspapers
Copies of the Michigan Catholic are located in the vestibule of the church. Please put the offering for the paper in the collection basket. All the other periodicals have been cancelled because they were piling up on the table for lack of sales. Those who would like to read or subscribe to the papers that used to be available on the literature table can access their website near the bottom of the Links page.

October is the month of the Holy Rosary
It also begins a year of the Eucharist proclaimed by our Holy Father Pope John Paul II. The Saint Joseph Legion of Mary has special devotion to Our Lord in the Holy Eucharist through Our Lady. The Legion performs spiritual and corporal works of mercy in the parish to aid the pastor in reaching out to all people. A devotional meeting is held in the Social Hall every Tuesday evening at 6:30 pm. Consider spending special time with our Blessed Mother during the month of October with a visit to the Legion of Mary meeting. Visitors are always welcome. Our Lady may be calling you to join. Call Terrence Klink for more information. (313) 582-0823

For thoughts on the Rosary, look at the Meditations page.

Holy Name Sunday
Next Sunday, October 10 is Holy Name Sunday at the 10:30 Latin Mass. Honor the Holy Name of Jesus by staying after Benediction to pray the Holy Name Pledge.
