WE
NEED ADVERTISERS for our bulletin. Ads cost $300 per year.
Parish Publications is losing money on our bulletin for lack of advertisers
and is considering dropping our business. Ads can be commercial or
personal. If you know of businesses who might be good candidates to
place ads in our bulletin please notify the bulletin editor, Patrick
Degens at 586 463-6178 or call the business office 313-831-6659 and
give the information to our secretary, Chris Hubbard. Many thanks!
WE STILL NEED USHERS!
Mike
Singelyn is the interim
captain of the ushers' club. Men and women who are able to usher at our
regular Sunday Masses and the monthly German Mass are asked to call Mike
at 313-885-5333 to volunteer their services. Choral Mass schedule

FEAST OF CHRIST THE KING
OUR HARVEST DINNER on November
6th was prepared by Bob
Tringali, sons
Tony and Phil, and daughter Jackie.
Jackie also baked and decorated the beautiful 150th Anniversary Cake.
The Tringalis have
been very generous
to St. Joseph Church for every dinner they have prepared for us. The
day after our dinner, the family opened a carry-out restaurant and catering
service on the south side of 15 Mile Rd. at the Parkside Plaza just west
of Garfield where the Fraser and Clinton Township border meets. The address
is 16712 15 Mile Rd. Fraser, MI. Phone (586) 415-8020. Hours
are 11-8 Monday through Friday, and 11-6 Saturday. They offer
an extensive menu for carry-out that includes a variety of desserts and
pastries.
The dinner menu
includes the same type of choices of that we had for our Harvest Dinner.
Special thanks & congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Tringali and their
family from St. Joseph parishioners and best wishes for success in their
new endeavor.
THANKSGIVING GIVING THE YEAR ROUND
Donate to our Food Pantry!
The Pilgrims who settled in New England in the 1600s survived
with the help and kindness from Native Americans who shared their food
and their knowledge with the Europeans. At their first harvest in the
New World the Pilgrims then reciprocated by sharing their bounty with
their benefactors. Here in our cluster we have the same opportunity
to help those in need, just as the Indians helped the Pilgrims. It is
by
donating every week to our food pantry. Our Food Pantry continuously
runs short of food. Sometimes it only functions one day a week. The requests
are so many that in order to be fair to those in need, we have to limit
each individual to one bag of groceries per month. Each person receiving
groceries is required to show their photo I.D. We make a record of each
bag of groceries that is given out and we cannot make exceptions if someone
comes earlier than once a month. Most people who patronize our pantry
are very understanding and comply with the rules. Many of our recipients
are the elderly who walk to our pantry from the neighborhood. If
each parishioner in our cluster could donate one food item per week,
we think
we could meet the needs of those people who come to us for help. It is
very difficult to turn someone away who has walked to our pantry only
to find out that we are out of food. Our pantry has also been adopted
by the parishioners of St. Mary of Creation in New Baltimore. Without
their help and that of many other non parishioners who have been very
generous, we would not be able to keep this Christian Service going.

THIRTY-THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
BAKE SALE TODAY!
Come to the Social Hall for some delicious baked goods.
Coffee and juice will be available for those who can’t wait to
get their goodies home. Help to restore our candelabra in the rear of
the church.
Help Keep Their Heads Warm
Sister Judie Ann Ruggirello and her order of nuns who live in our rectory
serve children with cancer whose families live below the poverty level.
The children lose their hair and can use sweat shirts with hoods. Any
donations of these items of any size including pre-school to teenage
are greatly appreciated. Items may be left in the church vestibule near
the food pantry. Scarves, knitted hats and gloves are also useful. These
items do not have to be new.
Our 150th Anniversary Mass with
Cardinal Maida was a step back in history. The choir sang the same Mass
by Franz Joseph Haydn that was sung at the dedication of our present stone
church in November of 1873. If anyone wonders how the music was obtained
for the choir, please picture our music director in the main Detroit Library,
searching microfilm week after week to obtain all of the beautiful music
that he makes available to the choir. He also accesses archives in Europe.
Much of the music has never been recorded before, and the performances
of some pieces at St. Joseph's are the first in over 100 years, and sometimes
the first in North America.
Thoughts on Purgatory From a Former Pastor “We
have friends, relatives and other Christian associates who are languishing
in Purgatory waiting desperately for some little help
from us. Thoughtlessly and selfishly we are inclined to pass them by
without even a gesture towards assistance. It would be an excellent thing
to imagine ourselves in their position of helplessness, and consider
what others’ prayers, penances and Masses would do for us. The
entire month of November is a special time of devotion to the poor souls.
Here is where everyone has an opportunity of becoming a real hero. Rescue
a helpless soul.” -- Fr. Theodore Lindemann, Pastor of St.
Joseph Church 1917-1940.

THIRTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Welcome
Please welcome Fr. Paul Ward, the new assistant that Cardinal
Maida has sent to our cluster to assist Fr. Mark. Fr. Paul is fluent
in several languages and will celebrate our monthly German Mass here
at St. Joseph’s besides working throughout the cluster. Because
we have so many downtown workers who attend our noonday Mass on Wednesday,
Fr. Mark has scheduled extra Masses here on Monday and Tuesday at 12:10
pm starting November 7.
Farewell
Because of the appointment of Fr. Paul Ward as assistant
to Fr. Mark, Fr. Lawrence Fares and Fr. John
Kiselica will
no longer be coming to Saint Joseph's on a regular basis to help out.
Fr. Fares
wishes to thank those parishioners who signed a farewell card this weekend
and also those who wanted to sign the card but were unable to because
of the confusion in the Social Hall during the reception following the
150th Anniversary Mass. He takes leave from us with a heavy heart. If
you would like to contact Fr. Fares and Fr. Kiselica, here is their
information:
Fr. Lawrence Fares, 31980 Mark Adam Lange, Warren, MI 48093, tel. 586-264-5926
Fr. John Kiselica c/o Divine Child Parish, 25001 Herbert Weier Drive,
Dearborn, MI 48128, tel. 313-277-3110
Altar Cloths
The prices listed in last week’s
bulletin for replacement altar cloths have been revised by
the supplier. High altar $350; Mary altar $400; Saint Joseph altar
$400; movable
altar $300. See the poster in the vestibule. The Saint Joseph Purgatorial Society offers Masses throughout the year for our beloved deceased. Envelopes
are available on the shelves behind
the last pews during the month of November for anyone who wishes to
enroll their loved ones in the Society. Funds received in those envelopes
are
combined as Mass stipends to be used throughout the year for randomly
scheduled Masses for the poor suffering souls. There is no minimum
amount required.
