TWENTY-SIXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Bake Sales
The electric candle holder that sits on a marble base at the left rear
of the church has returned. It was the object of an act of vandalism
some months ago and was hopelessly smashed. Our $500 insurance deductible
has restored it to its original glory. Now its twin looks rather shabby,
to say the least. The price to restore the twin is estimated at $2,700.
Starting the first Sunday in October (NEXT SUNDAY), and every first Sunday
thereafter, we will host a bake sale in the Social Hall after the Sunday
Masses. Everyone in the parish is asked to donate a baked item and also
to buy a baked item. This will afford everyone the opportunity to taste
recipes from other folks and help raise the money to cover the $500 deductible
it cost to repair the light fixture and hopefully raise enough to restore
its twin.
Rev. Father Richard Dorr passed
away on Sept. 7, 2005, at age 83. His funeral was on Sept. 12 at St.
Damian Church, Westland, where he had
been pastor for 22 years before his retirement. Our sympathies extend
to his sisters, Germaine and Rosemary.
Isabella Kenny, dear wife of Tim
and mother of Meagan and Meara, passed away on September 17th. The
Kennys reside at the rectory at St. Josaphat
Church. Our cluster family will remember Isabella for her courage in
fighting cancer. Last October, though ill, she cooked the monthly fundraising
dinner at St. Josaphat and continued to help serve and clean up on all
the fund raising dinners until her illness took her strength.
She gave of herself to her loved ones, to the church and to the families
of our cluster. Our sympathies extend to Tim , Meagan and Meara in
their sorrow.
May the souls of Father Richard and Isabella and all the
souls
of the Faithful Departed through the Mercy of God rest in peace. Amen.

TWENTY-FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Welcome Dr. David Wagner, our new organist and choirmaster. He holds
a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Michigan and has
been organist and harpsichordist with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.
He has been the conductor of the General Motors Employees Chorus and
is currently conductor of the Madonna University Chorale. He was heard
regularly on WQRS as classical music broadcaster and presently commutes
to broadcasts in Los Angeles.
THANK YOU!
Frederick W. Hoffman, Honorary Consul for the Federal Republic of Germany has
sent a check for $500 to Fr. Mark in appreciation for the role our church plays
in keeping alive the German language in public liturgical celebrations in the
City of Detroit. He wrote that he is most happy to assist our parish in any
way possible in his role as German Consul. Thank you, Herr Hoffman!
Our Bishop Plagens Coucil of the Knights of Columbus will be conducting
membership recruitment drives during the month of September before and
after Masses. Members will be available to provide information and answer
questions you may have regarding the Knights. We urge you, men of our
parish, to take a few moments of your valuable time and use this opportunity
to learn more about membership in the world‘s largest Catholic,
Fraternal, Service Organization. There will be an Open House in the social
hall at Sweetest Heart of Mary on Wednesday, September 21 at 8:00 pm.
All men in the cluster are invited.
