PRAYER REQUEST
Quentin and Gerthugh Clark are both in the Oakpointe Villa Nursing Home, 18901 Meyers at 7 Mile Rd. Their room telephone is 313-573-4820. Quentin had major surgery due to a blockage in the colon and will recover slowly due to his diabetes. Gerthugh fell at home and the door had to be broken down to get to her. They are both in good spirits but have asked for prayers. They will celebrate their 55th wedding anniversary on August 25th. They were married here at Saint Joseph Church and this year is the first time that they have ever missed our annual picnic in all those 55 years. Quentin ushers at the 10:30 Mass, was head of our St. Vincent de Paul Society for 50 years and was head of the Usher’s Club until just recently. He and Gerthugh have worked on nearly every project that has ever occurred here in the last 55 years. This was our first picnic in memory that Quentin wasn’t grilling Brats. Please keep them in prayer. They are precious to this parish.

Get involved in the Parish Council!
All parishioners are welcome to attend the meetings and participate in the governance of the parish. You can download the minutes from the last meeting here.

REGISTRATION
If you have been attending St. Joseph Parish but have not registered as a parishioner, please consider joining us! You can download a registration form here. Once you have completed it, please drop it into the collection basket at Mass, or send it to the address at the top of the sheet.

Don't forget Daily Mass!
Fr. Mark has reinstated daily Mass in our cluster. Mass is held Monday and Tuesday in Latin, and Wednesday in English at St. Joseph's at 12:10 p.m. Thursday noon Mass is at St. Josaphat's, and Fridays at Sweetest Heart of Mary, also at noon. Take the time for midday worship!

Choral Mass schedule

Choir season began on September 10 and the choir performs approximately biweekly at the 10:30 Mass on Sundays.

November 5 - Anniversary Mass, Mass in C Major by Johann Ernst Eberlin, for string orchestra, two trumpets, choir, soloists and organ.

Johann Ernst Eberlin (1702-1762) was an Austrian musician, born in the little Bavarian town of Jettingten and schooled in Augsburg, before enrolling in the Salzburg Benedictine University at age 19. He was a versatile and prolific composer who early in his career published many of his works for keyboard. A friend of both Leopold Mozart and his son Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Eberlin was a very prolific composer and wrote more than 300 works for both keyboard and for the church. From 1746 he worked for the Archbishop of Salzburg as both the head of music for the court at Salzburg and also for the Cathedral. The young Mozart expressed admiration for the abilities of Eberlin and his vocal writing, and even participated in performances of the latter's works. Eberlin died in Salzburg in 1762.

Christmas Masses

December 24 at Midnight - Chiemseemesse by Johann Michael Haydn (1737-1806), also known as the Missa in honorem Sanctae Ursulae. It was written in 1793 for a Mass at which a daughter of a friend (Ursula Oswald) made her profession as a nun at the monastery on the Fraueninsel on the Chiemsee. This selection celebrates the 100th anniversary of Haydn's death.

News is still pending on the music for the German and English Masses. Keep an eye on this schedule!

ES WAR WUNDERBAR!
All of the tallies aren’t in yet, but our first annual German Oktober Choral Fest now has a profit of $8,500 and there is still a bit more to come. Special thanks to Wilfried Mozer who organized the event and to all the donors and volunteers who worked so hard to make it a success. A video and a CD of the entire concert will be available very soon . All profits will go to St. Joseph Church. Next year’s festival is already in the planning stage. This has been the largest and most profitable fund raising activity in the recent history of our church and was all accomplished in the short period of two months. Bravo! Click here to see the photos.

Special thanks to our Bishop Plagens Council of the Knights of Columbus. A $500 donation was made by the Council toward the purchase of food and beverages for our Oktober Choral Fest. Our Council exists to support the three churches of our cluster besides supporting the worldwide activities of the Knights of Columbus. It is important to support our Knights in their local fund raising activities such as the cookout during the annual Freedom Festival Fireworks display. These activities also include the Christmas in July dinner and raffle and the upcoming sale of Christmas Cards during the annual “Keep Christ in Christmas” campaign. Knights will soon be selling Christmas cards throughout our cluster.

A beautiful statue of St. Joseph, for use in our silent auctions, was donated by Ann Bliss, owner of Peaceful Dove Religious Books, Cards and Gifts. The store is located in Clinton Township at 36439 Gratiot, between 15 and 16 mile roads. Ann has always been a great supporter of St. Joseph’s.

Want to give a gift to our Sorrowful Mother? There are still nine days left in the month of October, the month dedicated to her Most Holy Rosary. At Fatima, our Lady promised world peace if we would pray the Rosary every day. It might be a good time to begin this practice.

OKTOBER CHORAL FEST
The Choral Fest on October 22 has the potential of being the greatest fund raising event in the history of our parish. This can only happen if we have enough volunteers and patrons to make it a success. We need volunteers to sign up on the back of the green flyers that are in the bulletin and get them back to us. Our operating bank account is getting dangerously low again, and besides this fund raising event, parishioners should seriously consider the possibility of increasing their weekly donation to the parish. The heating season will soon be upon us and in the coldest weather, our gas bills last winter went as high as $3,000 for one month. Go team! Go!

TWENTY-SIXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Volunteers! Volunteers! Volunteers! We still need more folks to sign up to help at the Choral Fest on October 22. Sign-up sheets are inside the Sunday bulletin package. Please give your completed sheets to any usher, to Patrick Degens, or put them in the collection basket. This promises to be the largest fund raising event in the history of our parish. It will take the effort of many volunteers to make it a success.

Bake Sale Today. Come to the Social Hall for coffee, juice and baked goods.

Tootsie Roll Drive. The Bishop Plagens Council of the Knights of Columbus that serves our cluster will host its annual Tootsie Roll Drive next weekend, Oct. 7 & 8. Our Knights will be at the Eastern Market all day Saturday, and outside the churches of our cluster for the Saturday Vigil and Sunday Masses. Proceeds from this sale go to benefit the Mentally Impaired. Please be generous and remember your donations go to begin or improve programs for mentally impaired children and adults in our own communities. With all of the budget cuts at every level of government and business, programs that help those that are willing but less able to help themselves are facing difficult times. Won’t you join the Knights of Columbus in this worthy cause?

HALLOWEEN PARTY
