We made it! Keep it going!
Every dollar that is donated now to our C.S.A. will be returned to our church. Last year we went over our goal by $4,000. That amount was returned to St. Joseph Church. Our required goal this year was three hundred dollars less than last year. The diocese has always said that our goal will not be raised even if we consistently go over our goal. Blank pledge cards (blue) are available in the back of church for those who aren’t registered, or who may have lost their pledge card.

Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

We are planning a rummage sale for October to be held in our Social Hall. Parishioners are asked to start setting aside items to be donated to the sale. We do not accept clothing. Our last two rummage sales were held at the Kolping Hall in St. Clair Shores. Both were successful fund raising events. We hope to tap into the many shoppers at the Eastern Market by having the upcoming sale in our own Social Hall.

Our Bishop Plagens Council of the Knights of Columbus has named John  & Gertrude Dunne as the Family of the Month for June. The Dunnes are the parents of 10 grown children and for more than 40 years they have found time to work at St. Joseph Church as frequently as 6 days out of the week. Tree trimming, pruning bushes, planting flowers, cutting grass, picking up mountains of trash that blow daily from the Eastern Market, cleaning the church, donating money for every project, working on every event, and doing a multitude of handyman and handywoman chores has kept them busy here for thousands of hours. They have truly been unsung heroes and it is the Knight’s pleasure to present them with this award Thanks Jack and Gertrude!

Look UP!
The plasterwork in our church vestibule was virtually destroyed during the winter of 2005/2006 when a steam pipe broke beneath one of the radiators and all of the steam from our entire boiler shot into the vestibule. The paint was peeled and the plaster turned to mush. Thanks to our custodian, Tom Cracchiolo, with the help of a volunteer, Rick Gosiewski, all of the plaster was restored and the vestibule is returned to its former glory. Look up over the chandelier and see the beautiful art work on the ceiling. Notice that all of the woodwork is newly varnished, and the radiators repainted. The food pantry is inside next to St. Vincent.

Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

The Mass schedule has changed. Now that the cluster is back down to one full-time priest, we no longer have the luxury of fivc weekday Masses at noon, but will have them only on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. See the Mass Schedule for precise information.

Welcome to Fr. Tokarski! As the current plan goes, our Sunday Masses will now usually be said by Fr. Greg Tokarski, from SS. Cyril and Methodius Seminary. Fr. Tokarski speaks German, and beautiful Latin, and gives excellent, intelligent homilies, so stop by and get to know him. He is even willing to get over his fear of heights to preach in our traditional pulpit! Now, that's a really great guy!
