Twenty-Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Michael Semaan is our new organist and choir director. He previously sang in our choir a few years ago under the direction of Thomas Kuras who passed away from cancer. Mr. Semaan also studied organ under Tom Kuras and is delighted to be back “home” at St. Joseph’s. He hopes to rebuild our choir. Choir practice is at 7:00 pm on Wednesday evenings. Anyone wishing to join the choir should attend the Wednesday practice.

A Halloween Party for Children
Sunday, October 28th at 1:00 pm in the Social Hall at St. Joseph Church. Adults $5.00. Children are free and must be accompanied by an adult. Lunch menu of hot dogs, sloppy joes, chips, vegetables and dip, fresh fruit, cider and doughnuts. Games, crafts, storytelling and a costume contest. There will be pumpkin decorating, face painting, a sing-a-long and each child will receive a framed photo, a treat bag and prizes. The party will run to approximately 3:30 pm. Tickets are available after Masses, or through the parish office. Space is limited. Get your tickets today! Last year was a sellout. Sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Bishop Plagens Council #13318 that serves the three parishes of our cluster.

Our annual Harvest Dinner that celebrates the founding of the parish in 1855 will be held at the Carpathia Club on Utica Rd. near 17 Mile on Sunday, November 4th, at 2:00 pm. Tickets are available after Mass at $25. Menu: Schnitzel, green beans in cream sauce, red skin potatoes, sauerkraut & sausage, cake, beer, wine and pop.

Storm Window Project
Progress continues on our storm window replacement project. This entire project was made possible by a bequest of $80,000 by Leonard Gabriel, an anonymous donation of $30,000 and several individual donations. So far one parishioner has donated $3,000 toward this project, and the 1956 graduation class of St. Joseph High School has donated $1,812.43. These generous donations were added to the remaining funds from our stained glass window restoration campaign that took place from 1999-2001. The storm window project will cost $166,000 and that includes complete restoration of the Death of St. Joseph window. Since 2001, six windows in the church have already been completely restored . Thirteen more windows need to be taken down and restored but we do not have any more money available for their restoration. We appreciate any and all donations toward these projects. Please make checks out to St. Joseph Window Restoration.

Oktober Choral Fest Update
So far the preliminary profit from our Oktober Choral Fest has reached $19,290.50. This amount reflects a recent gift of $5,000 from Rudolf Mozer, brother of Wilfried Mozer. Wilfried is the founder of our Oktober Choral Fest. Last year’s festival made over $9,000 for our church. It is precisely because of these two festivals along with a bequest from Leonard Gabriel of $80,000, an anonymous gift of $30,000 and various other donations, that we are able to replace the storm windows on the church.
