Feast of the Holy Family

WILL OUR BAKE SALES CONTINUE?
Our Bake Sales will resume on January 6th. In the last 2 years the Bake Sales have earned $8,000. The bakers have consisted mostly of 4 parishioners from St. Joseph, Sister Judie Ann, and bakers from 3 other parishes. Each month, 2 women and Sister Judie Ann have baked 20 to 30 items apiece. This is not fair and we need participation of the whole parish if the bake sales are to continue. We cannot expect a handful of people to carry this amount of baking on forever. Its up to the rest of us to get on board. One lady from St. Hubert’s in Harrison Township who contributes regularly to our bakes sales offered this advice. “If you can read the instructions on the box, you can bake.” Baking can be fun and educational at the same time. Invest an hour or two a month in this project to help pay our utility bills.

St. Joseph Maria Liebesbund / Legion of Mary
The Legion of Mary is a ministry to aid our pastor to reach out to all people. The Maria Liebesbund recalls the German origin of our parish when the Liebesbund Society was established December 7, 1856, as a support group for parishioners. The Legion of Mary performs spiritual works of mercy just as the original Liebesbund did. A devotional meeting is held every Monday at 5:00 p.m. in our Social Hall except on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve when the meeting moves to Wednesday. Visitors are always welcome. The Legion gives much needed spiritual support to our priests and parishioners. The prayers at the devotional meeting would touch the most indifferent heart. Anyone interested in further information may call Terry Klink at 313 582-0823. For the meeting schedule, check the parish's online calendar.

Erwin Beck, a longtime parishioner and former choir member passed away on December 12, 2007, at age 77. Father Borkowski celebrated Erwin’s funeral Mass on Friday, December 14, 2007, here at St. Joseph Church. May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace.

John (Jack) Dunne, husband of Gertrude, passed away Tuesday, December 4, 2007. He was laid to rest on Friday, December 7. After his retirement from Ford Motor, Jack could be found here every day at St. Joseph’s doing every type of chore imaginable. He was often accompanied by his wife, one or more of their ten children or many grandchildren. Our longtime parishioners cannot remember a time when Jack and Gertrude Dunne were not working for this parish, contributing generously of their time, talents and finances toward every project. They most recently worked on our October rummage sale. The entire parish offers their sympathy to Gertrude Dunne and her family in this time of bereavement. He will be sorely missed by us all.
